About usINOSTRANKA Publishers was established in Spring 2000 with the participation of INOSTRANNAYA LITERATURA Monthly. Among founders and ideologist of the publishing house was Grigory Tchkhartishvili, at that time deputy editor in chief who later became wildly popular as Boris Akunin. The publishing house focuses mainly on contemporary foreign literature in translation, working in close collaboration with the aforementioned magazine.Books published by INOSTRANKA are deservedly respected and acclaimed for their quality, which does not appear to be surprising because only best translators and editors are involved into production. Most books of INOSTRANKA Publishers with only minor exception are designed by one of the most gifted and famous modern book designer Andrey Bondarenko. ILLUMINATOR (“The Window”) book series that succeeded once very well known “The Library of INOSTRANNAYA LITERATURA Monthly” series was the first to appear making the publishing house famous very quickly. This series boasts best works of world literature skillfully translated by leading Russian translators. Up to this moment, more than sixty books were published. People who like reading foreign detectives enjoy books united by LEKARSTVO OT SKUKI (“Boredom Killer”) series. It was initiated by Boris Akunin — connoisseur and virtuoso of detective genre. He is also a compiler of this series. ZA ILLUMINATOROM (“Through the Window”) series seems to be the ILLUMINATOR of a new age. Here we present young foreign writers, who have already claimed international recognition and tend to become the classics of the nearest future. The name of RUSSKAYA LITERATURA (“Russian Literature”) series speaks for itself — this is a genuine Russian literature which has always been a glorious one. Exquisiteness and highest level of language imaginable are typical of books belonging to this series. After being recognized as a publishing house providing best pieces of world literature for adults, INOSTRANKA Publishers started to release great books for children as well, in the series named DETYAM DO SHESTNADTSATI (“Children up to Sixteen”). Freshly launched project of INOSTRANKA Publishers named V ILLUMINATORE...(“Behind the Window…”) comprises several subseries composed according to geographical principle. The aim of this project is to provide the reader with an opportunity to get acquainted with a contemporary literary landscape of a specific country.
